Tryouts - Competitive Program

Prospective SCFC U11-U18 Competitive Program players will be evaluated at tryouts conducted by the professional staff. Although there is no fee for tryouts, all players must register. Please register ahead of time to speed up the player check-in process. Please see the Registration page for program fees and more information.

Here are the tentative tryout schedules for the upcoming 2010-2011 season, all to be held at Centennial Park at 2200 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood.

Tryouts typically consist of two-1.5 hour sessions held on separate days. Please note that SCFC is providing a third session for U11 tryouts as shown above. Players trying out for the U11 age level should attend two of the three sessions available to them to allow the staff to fully evaluate their skills. Players trying out for the U12-U18 age levels should attend both of the sessions available to them.

At the tryouts, players will participate in individual skills drills and small-sided games (1 v 1, 1 v 2, 2 v 2, 4 v 4), culminating in 8 v 8 or 11 v 11 games, that reflect individual skills and team skills and game awareness. If a prospective player misses the tryouts, they may be able to attend a supplemental tryout sessions if professional staff are available.

In addition to the tryouts, players who participated in the SCFC U9/U10 Academy will also be evaluated based on their performance during the Academy sessions. Incoming recreational players are highly encouraged to take part in SCFC Game Nights that precede the tryouts (usually the late April/early May time period) at Centennial Park. This will allow the professional staff to better assess recreational players’ skills levels. Recreational players still must take part in tryouts regardless of whether they attended SCFC Game Nights.

Based upon Academy player evaluations, evaluations of players at the SCFC Game Nights and at tryouts, all of the participating players will be ranked by the professional staff and then assigned to the appropriate Competitive Program division. A player that, in the opinion of the professional staff, is not yet ready for competitive level of play will likely be advised to continue in the recreational program. In that case, you will be able to return to the registration system and complete the steps to enroll your player in the recreational program.
